I bought some to try, I put two 8 podded stars in a wooden mortar and crushed them into dust. I then boiled water and added the anise to it along with half a lemon and some crushed ginger. I gotta try something different.

Hmmm...
I would say just boil/steep the star anise in a tea ball. That's how I do it.
I love the mortar and pestle thing though!!!
